Multifocal Lenses

Whether you’re getting glasses for the first time or exploring more advanced solutions like multifocals, understanding the role of an optometrist helps you make informed decisions about your eye care.

What Is an Optometrist?

An optometrist is a qualified eye care professional who is trained to examine your eyes, check your vision, and detect early signs of eye conditions. They are often your first point of contact when you experience vision changes, discomfort, or other symptoms related to eye health.

Optometrists perform subjective refraction tests to determine your glasses prescription, and may also conduct basic eye health screenings to check for signs of common conditions such as:

  • Dry Eye Syndrome (干眼症) – a common issue for those who spend long hours in air-conditioned spaces or on digital screens
  • Cataracts (白内障) – a clouding of the eye’s lens, common in older adults
  • Glaucoma (青光眼) – increased eye pressure that can damage the optic nerve and lead to vision loss if undetected
  • Macular Degeneration – affects central vision and typically impacts those over 60

  • Macular Degeneration – affects central vision and typically impacts those over 60

Our optometrists are also highly experienced in managing multifocal prescriptions, ensuring proper lens fitting and comfort based on your lifestyle.

At Pott Glasses, every outlet is supported by at least one optometrist, alongside a team of trained opticians. As optometrists are scheduled on rotating shifts and rest days, they may not be available daily. For eye health screenings or in-depth consultations, we recommend making an appointment in advance so we can ensure an optometrist is available during your visit.

When Should You See an Optometrist?

If you’re experiencing blurry vision, eye strain, frequent headaches, or difficulty focusing, especially when reading or driving—it’s a good idea to get your eyes checked. For customers above 40, an annual eye check-up can help detect early signs of age-related changes like presbyopia (老花), dry eyes, or cataract symptoms.

What’s the difference between an optometrist and an optician?

An optometrist is trained to perform comprehensive eye exams, prescribe lenses, and detect early signs of eye conditions.

An optician, on the other hand, focuses on fitting and adjusting glasses based on your prescription— and in Malaysia, qualified opticians (refractionists) are also allowed to conduct subjective eye tests.

At Pott Glasses, both our optometrists and trained opticians work together to ensure you receive accurate vision care and the right eyewear for your needs.
