What is Multifocal Glasses
Multifocal glasses also known as “progressive glasses” is a type of glasses that consist of different prescription within the same pair of glasses.
As we get older, we will start noticing our near vision is not as sharp as it used to be, especially when using phones, reading newspapers or documents. This is a common condition as we age, it is called Presbyopia (Loufa 老花)
Multifocal lenses are designed to consist of different powers to help you see clearly at all distances, from near to far. Whether you are reading, driving, playing golf —— all done in 1 pair. Multifocal lenses allow you to move through your day smoothly, without the hassle of switching between glasses.
How Do Multifocal Lens Work
Top Zone: For Distance Vision (e.g., Driving, Outdoor Activities)
Middle Zone: For Intermediate Vision (e.g., Meeting, Cooking)
Bottom Zone: For Near Vision (e.g., Reading, Filling out Forms)
The power distribution in Multifocal Lens is designed and arranged based on how our eyes naturally move in daily life—looking straight ahead for distance, slightly down for computer work, and further down for reading. This design follows our everyday habits, allowing you to see clearly at all distances without constantly adjusting your head or switching glasses.
Tips for Adapting a Multifocal Lenses
- Wear Your New Multifocal Glasses Full-Time at the Beginning
Try to wear your glasses as much as possible, especially in the first few days. The more you wear them, the faster your eyes and brain will adjust. - Move Your Eyes Instead of Excessive Head Movement
Use your eyes to look through the correct zone of the lens:
- Top zone for far distance
- Middle zone for intermediate tasks
- Bottom zone for near vision
Avoid tilting your head too much.
- Give Yourself Time to Adjust
It’s normal to feel a bit dizzy or off-balance at first. Most people take between 2 days to 1 week to fully adapt. - Be Extra Careful on Stairs
When walking up or down stairs, always look through the top part of your lenses. Looking through the reading zone can cause distortion and affect your balance. - Come Back for Adjustment If Needed
Everyone wears glasses a little differently, and even a slight misalignment can lead to dizziness or blurriness. If the discomfort or blur continues after a week, feel free to come back for a quick adjustment—we’re here to help you get the perfect fit.
